TRAVERTINE PAVER
1-3-5
SEALING PROGRAM

(see also Concrete Paver Sealing)

Why Seal? Sealing is the only way to stop surface loss of your travertine pavers. It is the only way to introduce shark skin, a slip resistance additive, to the top of your pavers.

When to Seal? Seal upon project completion (year 1), again at year 3 and once more at year 5.

The Benefits. This program assures your travertine will have the correct amount of sealer. Sealing after this schedule should be on an “as needed” basis. The KEY is not to over-seal which creates a vapor barrier therefore causing discoloration.

How Sealer Works. Sealer acts as glue and penetrates the top 3/16” of the travertine bonding all the particles of stone together. Sealer penetrates these tiny pores within the travertine and remains even when the initial sheen wears off.

If You Don’t Seal. Travertine abrades due to rainfall. You will begin to see the surface finish change, appearing rougher over time.

The Process. We will pressure clean your travertine removing as much dirt and grime as possible. The travertine is left to dry. We then apply two coats of sealer. Foot traffic is allowed after a few hours and vehicle traffic after twelve hours.
